Chatting on the patio of a local Chengdu bar located in the heart of China’s Sichuan province, John (former foreign English teacher) and Richard (ex-consultant) came to realize just how difficult it can be for an aspiring foreign English teacher to actually get to China. Everything from organizing the logistics of travel, cutting through the red tape, and finding a legitimate school to work with can be daunting. After dealing with many of these issues firsthand, the two became determined to make teaching English in China as convenient and transparent as possible for prospective teachers. Thus, Teaching Adventures Abroad was created.
There are many companies to choose from for those seeking a teaching engagement in China; however, in speaking to foreign English teachers from around China, John and Richard found that expectations prior to departure and the in-country experience did not line up.
